ARC Studio

ARC Studio is the research and production laboratory founded in Brazil by Viola Pineider. Its material is reclaimed wood; its aim is to transform it into forms that engage with the body and with space.

The process stays close to the material. Wood is chosen and left to settle, sometimes for months. It brings with it what it has lived through before — the weight and the marks left by whoever worked it. Construction erases none of this. It follows the material and tests it, looking for the form it was already moving toward. ARC comes from the continuity between Pineider’s technical knowledge and her instinctive response to material. The work moves between wearable objects and pieces conceived for space, maintaining the same physical relationship with wood in both. Reuse becomes a language, not a theme. The wearable objects that come from this research are signed ARC. They are the most direct expression of the laboratory’s work, conceived to stay close to the body. The sculptural works and installations Viola Pineider signs in her own name come from the same research.
